Bruce's Bio

Bruce Irwin was born in Lebanon, Indiana, where he spent his youth. After displaying an early propensity for drawing, painting, and sculpture, he pursued his art education in college and received a B.F.A. in Painting from Arizona State University. Upon graduation he moved to Southern California where he presently resides. Bruce has also earned an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.

While spreading paint for years during evenings and weekends, Bruce spent much of his ‘other’ career employed as a Technical Graphics Designer in the aerospace industry. The aerospace work required the creation of exploded renderings of complex aeronautical components. In looking at several of Bruce’s paintings, one can see how this experience affected his fine art, which often depicts multiple perspectives exploding out from the center of his canvases. This may also explain Bruce’s life-long attraction to the work of Pablo Picasso, whos cubistic, multi-planer approach remains a strong influence in Bruce’s work.

Bruce’s travels have included visiting many of the world’s greatest museums while pursuing his interest in art history. Artists ranging from Vermeer to Johns inspire many of his pieces. While in college Bruce met the internationally acclaimed artist Christo, whom he credits for inspiring his continually evolving ecologically themed paintings.

Bruce’s painting style and interests address many topics while navigating between figurative works and landscapes. Often times, he can usually be found in his custom built studio, listening to music over the sound of his basset hound snoring in the corner, while working on his latest vision.
